Love is at it’s purest form when you continue to love someone even though they don’t love you back.
The reason why I say this is because loving someone with no expectations, with no attachments is the purest kind of love. Love that continues to live inside you even when the person you love is not able to feel it. Love that many people do not feel because for them, love is only about giving or only about making themselves feel good.
When someone loves you back, it’s nice, it makes you feel good but sooner or later it becomes based on attachments, infatuation, expectations and soon leads to disappointments, the reason why is because often, we forget that this is the Dunya. That you are not perfect and neither is anyone else because this Dunya isn’t perfect, nor was it ever meant to be. So to expect somebody to be everything that you want them to be is being ignorant. Simply because if الله does not expect us to be perfect, He overlooks our mistakes then how can we expect people to be perfect for us, and how can we hold grudges against people for all that they did not do.
We also tend to forget that the person we love, or even the love between people is a seed planted in the hearts of those people by الله, so if only we could see that when that person is afflicting us with pain, الله is using that person, that love as a tool to bring you back to Him. So often, we bring other meanings into context, of why it happened, but the purpose is simple. We just like to make everything complicated. When you start to view things simply, everything becomes clear and you no longer feel resentful or bitter.
Muhabba’h for your Rubb will keep you content with the people of this Dunya because you see the world through different eyes when you come to realisations that الله has given you. Realisations which are already in the Qur’an but we fail to use other people’s experiences to help us. As humans we need to experience situations ourselves before we can begin to understand them.
So that person who is experiencing unrequited love, don’t mock them because they are fortunate to be experiencing the purest kind of love of this Dunya. Love which is not in everyone’s destiny. Love which can destroy you but holding tight to the rope that binds you to الله, one day that love will become the love you attain in Jannah.
For maybe الله is saving this love for you, in the Akhirah. Maybe this Dunya will taint that love, so الله will give you it in Jannah. That is love in itself. The love of our Creator.
