The Sky Is Where Humility Lives

Yes, the ground is full of humility but so is the sky, depending on your perception. Given that when you look up at the sky, you realise how small you are in comparison to it. You realise that the huge expanse of the sky is covering you; it is guarding you against your own self. It is teaching you humility.

When I look to the sky, I realise that I am moving. The clouds are a sign of this divine movement. Even in those moments when I feel frozen, I feel numb, I am still moving. I realise that I am not in control of my movement but in fact, the creator of the universe is. Even when I feel that I am losing my sanity and inner peace, I know that I am moving just as I am moving through life. I carry on moving, through time and space because I am not the controller of my heart, the creator of you and I is.

Before you can learn humility, you need someone or something to teach you. The sky is one of the many teachers that is placed right above us by the greatest teacher of all, God. The sky has been put above us to teach us humility but also to show us that our acts of humility should be consistent in the same way as the sky that is consistent in moving. The sky is consistent in being there above us so that every time we look up, we see it. Consistency is key.

Know that there is a greater ground of humility which is the sky.

My Own Heart Killed Me

The heart is a place where all your desires, good or bad, form and then cause you to take actions based on them. These desires can kill you. Maybe not literally, but they kill your Emaan, your love of God, and your faith and trust in Him. They become diseases from which you cannot escape and lead to your destruction. These desires, if put in the hands of الله will bring you closer to Him instead of away but when you follow your whims and desires, the only thing that remains is death, and I don’t mean literally, but figuratively, you die whilst you are still alive.

The heart is very fragile, just the feeling of sadness causes it to be harmed but if you listen closely to your heartbeat, it is also in Dikhr of الله as is everything else of this Dunya, it screams الله, الله, الله and all it wants is to be heard. All الله wants is for you to remember Him, not for His benefit, but for your own because only through Him will you achieve success and happiness in your life. Only through Him will every hardship bring you ease, and only through Him will light prevail over darkness.

Sometimes we get stuck in the highs and lows of life and forget that we need to cleanse our hearts and the only way to do this is to read Salah five times a day. The beauty of Salah is that they come at different times of the day so every time you feel like you’re getting to attached to the Dunya, every time you feel as if your desires are overwhelming you, you have a chance to go back to the One who will make it all better. The One who will remove all the blackness of the heart just because you turned to Him and remembered Him.

It doesn’t matter if you haven’t yet reached the highest level of Emaan, or if you think you have done nothing to deserve His rewards and forgiveness. الله doesn’t ask for perfection, He only asks that we try and we will be rewarded for our efforts Inshallah. All you need is Him and even your own heart will move in sync with you. It won’t destroy you. All you have to do is keep trying, again and again. Don’t ever stop. Keep trying until you reach the very end of this life because only then will your desires stop.
